Reception on the Sunshine Coast Trail varies

Download your maps and tell someone your route before leaving. A satellite device gives you a separate communication method. It does not change the trail’s reception.

Check what your phone already supports
Apple’s Emergency SOS via satellite works on iPhone 14 and later in the US and Canada when the stated software and purchase-region requirements are met. You must be outdoors with a view of the sky and horizon. Apple provides a demo to practice connecting before a trip. Apple

Activate and test before leaving
Check the subscription and battery. Follow the manufacturer’s test procedure. Show your hiking partner where the SOS control is and how to use it. Do not trigger a real SOS as a practice test. Garmin support, Apple satellite demo
